Welcome to the NCCPS’s Virtual Professional Development page, where you can find information on our online educational opportunities. VPD provides flexibility in advancing practitioner knowledge about specific topic areas. Programs offered through the NCCPS Virtual Professional Development initiative are self-paced to allow individuals to make the best use of their time in order to meet their learning objectives. Practitioners can choose to complete a course at a time that is convenient for their schedule, and courses can be accessed anywhere there is an internet connection.
VPD was developed in response to an identified need through discussions in the field with public safety officials and industry experts. Our stakeholders indicate that their training budgets are in decline, yet their departments are required to meet increasing expectations and be more creative to achieve the desired outcome of well-trained staff. Although some education programs are more effective with an in-person component, virtual training can be equally successful when developed properly. The NCCPS has taken great care to ensure these VPD opportunities were developed to meet the standards of effective virtual learning, working with instructional design and online learning professionals.
There is no charge to attend the VPD courses. The cost of developing and delivering these programs is covered by a cooperative agreement with Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice. Once registered, participants will have 30 days to complete a course and will receive a certificate of completion following a successful post-test at the end of each course.
More courses will be added to the list of opportunities as they become available. For more information or questions, please contact Program and Training Manager Andrea Young.
